Phoenix appears to be spun of silk and shaped of water by design. To be easy on the eyes that have been crying. To be comforting and uplifting for the grieving soul. To cover like a shroud, but stand intrinsically invincible in the face of death and loss.

Christian and secular traditions come together in a small but deep cut on the left side of Phoenix (mirroring the cut that the body of Jesus received likely on the right side). This cut speaks to the wound we all carry and quietly normalise, the one that doesn't heal, but blends in until something rips it open again with sudden pain.

A dynamic interplay of the wings and with it - some off-balance, symbolise the unexpected twists life can take, and death can bring.

The wings also reference simple human desires, such as the urge to embrace, to reach out, or to rise from the ashes toward eternal life and conquer death. But while they come close, for now the wings can't quite touch - until then, we have a large and open empty space between them held for sorrow to dwell in and linger as it must. Partly protected from the public eye, and partly impossible to hide from it.

And yet, it is important to see the light on the other side, when we sit down with our loss in a place like this, so Luxi Phoenix allows the light and air to pass through between its wings too - because the only way out of is through, and through we can make it.

Approximate dimensions

Phoenix measures almost 30 cm high and nearly 26 cm in width (at the widest point), with the capacity of 3.87 litres (equivalent to 235.23 cubic inches), which means it is most suitable for between 55 and 110 kg (242.5 lb) in weight. The keepsake version of this Pleiad is 85 ml.
